November snow earliest in recorded history
Posted: Nov 01, 2014 10:13 AM Updated: Nov 01, 2014 12:04 PMThe snow that fell in the Midlands on Saturday morning is the earliest in recorded history.
Since 1880, there has never been a snowfall in Columbia before this date, according to the National Weather Service. How rare is this event? The first freeze doesn't normally happen until November 10.
WIS WEATHER
Interstate 20 in western Lexington County was closed for a time because icy conditions prohibited truckers from driving on a hill near Calks Ferry Road.
Thousands were without power in Lexington County due to high winds.
At this point, most roadways are not cold enough to cause any icing or accumulations, however, you are urged to be cautious in areas where frozen precipitation has fallen. Be especially aware when driving over bridges as those will freeze first.
The snow isn't expected to last very long, though.
"A cold upper low continues to pull in cold air and rain/snow/sleet into the Midlands this morning," Meteorologist Von Gaskin says. "The air temperatures are in the 30's at the surface and much colder as you go higher in the atmosphere. That has allowed for a wintry mix in parts of the state. There will be some light accumulations on roads and grassy areas, but all areas will see less than one inch. This system is expected to pass through by late morning. As temperatures warm everything will turn to rain, so, look for periods of rain by midday through afternoon."
No Canadá também muita neve nesse outono.

Snow in Toronto: Halloween is gone, winter is coming
The first snow of the season fell in Toronto overnight on Nov. 1, 2014
Josh Elliott, CTV Toronto

The Halloween ghosts, goblins and zombies disappeared early Saturday
morning and were replaced with something more frightening: snow.
A light dusting of the white stuff fell over the GTA early Saturday in the first snowfall of the season. The temperature dipped as low as 0.9 C overnight and is expected to reach 5 C by the afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
The snow fell heavy enough to blanket lawns and cars in some parts of the city, while other areas experienced nothing more than a sprinkling of quick-melting flurries.
Environment Canada says periods of wet snow mixed with rain are expected for the Toronto area in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures are expected to then climb to about 8 C on Sunday and should hit double-digits by Tuesday, meaning the snow won't last long.
Some early risers snapped photos of the first snowfall Saturday morning and posted them on social media.
